Robin Chiles started the company in 1983 with a bag of hand tools and a rented workshop, having tired with the cost and time spent commuting to London to work as a site carpenter.
The company started making simple free standing furniture and basic joinery, but quickly began investing in both people and machinery enabling the range of products to expand considerably, from bespoke kitchens and fitted furniture to complex staircases and sliding folding doors.
Mounts Hill Woodcraft moved to Oakhurst Farm in Cranbrook about 20 years ago and has had a steady expansion in machinery, technology and in staff numbers since then. As many of the workshop staff start out as apprentices for the firm the team has grown together over a number of years. The result is a skilled workforce who share a strong team spirit and work with an emphasis on trust and belonging within the company.
